RUG Delver Fetchlands

 

I have been thinking about a good article that Mike Flores wrote a while ago about RUG manabases and just wanted to add a quite note to what I think the optimal manabase is at the moment.

Most Common Manabase (i.e. cheapest for newer Modern Players):

4 Misty Rainforest
4 Scalding Tarn
3 Tropical Island
3 Volcanic Island
4 Wasteland

The split I have advocated for a while now (aka I stifle you after I play a wooded foothills):

2 Flooded Strand
2 Polluted Delta
3 Tropical Island
3 Volcanic Island
4 Wooded Foothills
4 Wasteland

The problem with the above is that no deck is running wooded foothills except for the occasional RUG player who is trying to get you...so yeah that is awkward.

As of 07/01/14 I believe that the optimal land split is the below:

Manabase:

4 Flooded Strand
4 Polluted Delta
3 Tropical Island
3 Volcanic Island
4 Wasteland

These are a lot of Miracles, Esperblade and Deathblade out there at the moment and Flooded Strand/Polluted Delta go is a common play in all of the above decks. The above fetches can also put you on several combo decks as well as a few fringe decks. Being the same as everyone else in this case can be a big benefit and hopefully helps you catch a few more fetchlands with your stifles.

Of course your mileage may vary depending on your metagame, card availability and even pimp level. I for one will be sad to not be playing my German Wooded Foothills.
